THE DESTRUCTION OF A SYMBOL OF BOSNIAN MULTICULTURAL IDENTITY

For decades, the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina represented one of the most important cultural and scientific places of the country.

In the night from 25th to 26 August 1992, the library was completely destroyed by fire have having been shell by the Serbian army. More than 1 million of books and precious manuscripts went up in flames. A huge chapter of history of the country was lost forever.
