AN ANCIENT ROMAN CITY UNDERWATER

Allianoi was an ancient Roman city in western Turkey that became famous, between the 2nd and 5th centuries AD, as an important thermal centre. The ancient city was flooded by the reservoir resulting from the construction of the Yortanlı Dam in 2011 and now it lies between 2 and 20 m underwater.

Below you can find a selection of open-access scientific research on the flooding of Allianoi.
