THE LOSS OF A SYMBOL OF IRANIAN CULTURE AND ART

For almost a century Tekkiye Dowlat was in important a performance place and the most famous seat of all for the religious performances in Iran. However, during the early 20th century it lost it importance and was gradually abandoned despite the great important and influence still exerting on the Iranian culture.

As a result in 1947 it was destroyed to leave the place to the National Bank of Iran. Beside its social relevance, Tekkiye Dowlat was the first place where women could move freely in a heavily religious country.
